Brandon's Story

Brandon Robertson is 28-year-old paraplegic from a random gunshot wound. He was working prior to this injury as a computer analyst and living in his own apartment. Brandon came to us from Grady where the Outpatient PMR doctor there felt he needed specialty rehabilitation after he was discharged. Brandon was given a wheelchair with a seat cushion which was not meeting his needs. We set him up with FODAC (one of our partners) so he could get better wheelchair parts, seat cushions and an appropriate tub bench. He had no consistent bowel or bladder program and was wearing diapers in case of accidents. He was living at his mother's inaccessible home where his brother had to carry him out.

Brandon’s goals were to be able to walk, get out in the community and get back to work. After eight visits and a lot of dedicated hard work by Brandon, he no longer needs diapers, has a consistent bowel and bladder program, can get out of his home on his own, is working on a driving, on HUD housing waiting list to live with his brother, working with our vocational counselor for job placement, signing  up for wheelchair sports teams and learning to walk with AFO’s from CH Martin (one of our partners).

Brandon used the donated phone app (one of our Partners - PT PAL) for follow through on home care exercise programs which has helped him with strength and endurance for walking. Brandon has been very active in the Peer Support group we have and always engages and supports other fellow SCI clients. He is a ROCK STAR!
